More trouble at MTC's Kingman Prison.

This is an email notice from Frank Smith, sent last night. He's my buddy with the Private Corrections Working Group, which has been helping communities fight prison privatization for something like 20 years. He's a pretty credible source...

At 8:00 PM on Thursday November 4, 2010 there was more trouble at MTC in Kingman. An inmate was running away from an officer with a cell phone in his hands. When the young (and I do mean young) officer caught the inmate he hand cuffed him so hard that his wrists were bleeding. The inmate complained and yet this young officer did not loosen the hand cuffs. Finally another senior officer approached and then loosened the handcuffs, but the inmate was bleeding a lot. The other inmates began to up rise and ran the officers off the yard and were throwing rocks at the officers. This took place at the Cerbat complex (the low level prison that ADOC approved to house 200 men in a dormitory style setting, there are 10 dorms but only 8 have inmates). The young officer that caused the incident was sent home, the Mohave County Sheriff office was called and deputies were sent to the scene. The for-profit prison is on lock down.
