Arizona will not renew Corrections Corp contract

Nashville, TN

Corrections Corporation of America, the nation's largest prison operator, said Tuesday the Arizona Department of Corrections won't renew its contract at a 160-bed correctional facility in Oklahoma.

The contract is scheduled to expire on May 1.

Arizona expects to begin transferring prisoners from the prison beginning in May and ending in June.

The decision stems from Arizona budget proposals that phase out out-of-state prisons.

Corrections Corp. said it would idle the facility but also market it to other customers.
