Arizona prison inmate dies after suicide attempt
Associated Press - October 10, 2009 6:14 PM ETPHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Corrections says an inmate who apparently tried to commit suicide last month at the state prison in Phoenix has died after being taken off life support.
A statement issued by the Corrections Department says 18-year-old Hernan Cuevas died Saturday after his family authorized medical staff at Maricopa Medical Center to take him off life support.
Cuevas was serving a 2 1/2 year sentence for a Maricopa County burglary. He had been hospitalized since the apparent suicide attempt on Sept. 22.
The incident is under investigation.
